Bargain and sale by Thomas Lumpkyn of Bury St. Edmunds (Suff.), maltster, to William Spalding the Elder of Tymworth (Suff.), yeoman, for a certain competent sum of 3 messuages, 1 barn, and 1 garden therewith belonging, which late were of John Humfris and Anne his wife, lying in Bury aforesaid in the street here called "Garland Streete" between the lane called "Burman's Lane" on the south part and the messuage late of Thomas Willys on the north part and abutting to the East on the garden sometime of Syemon Lanham and afterward of John Coles and now of the said Thomas Lumpkyn, and upon the garden late John Shawe's, now also of the said Thomas Lumpkyn; and on the yard and dovehouse sometime of Robert Payntell, late of the said John Cole and now of the said Thomas Lumpkyn; and upon the close late of Robert Kempe, esq., and toward the West upon the street called "Garlond Street;" Also of garden ground with a dovehouse in Burman's Lane, lately purchased of Simon Langham by Robert Lauraunce; Also of another garden in Burman's Lane which Thomas Lumpkyn lately purchased of Alice Shaw, widow; and also of all and singular messuages of the said grantor in the said streets and land. Memorandum on the reverse to the effect that it was agreed between the parties that Thomas Lumpkyn or his assigns should occupy the tenement within named until Michaelmas next coming without payment of rent, at which time if the said William Spaldinge or his heirs do decide that they shall continue, then he shall make a lease of the tenement unto Thomas Lumpkyn for a term of years at £8 yearly rent; if he shall decide that they shall not continue, then Thomas Lumpkyn and his assigns will occupy the tenemtn until Michaelmas 1585 without any rent but only one penny.
